Days 10-12 on the river<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nearing the End<\/h2>\n

We were looking forward to arriving at “The Dollhouse”, which is some spectacular scenic hiking at the terminus of the trip. But we were not looking forward to the end of the trip together.<\/p>\n

Dave and I were originally planning to paddle for a couple of weeks and then spend a week tooling around Utah to see other cool stuff. At the last minute we pushed out the paddling portion and I ended up putting it at the end of my month long trip. Being my first extended trip away from home I wanted to limit it to one month and really wanted to hold my promise to be back on time.<\/p>\n

Wake of Destruction<\/h2>\n

A lot of Dave’s gear turned out to be near end-of-life and ended up meeting its maker on this trip. It seemed like every day something else went out. I seemed to have forgotten to get a picture of the DeLorme InReach satellite tracker\/communicator which broke a couple of days into the trip.<\/p>\n

Hole in the tent that leaked water. Fortunately Dave had a repair kit. In fairness, this tent has been USED UP from many months of use in the desert sun.<\/p><\/div>\n

Not long into the trip the sole on this sandal delaminated and was flopping around uselessly. Fortunately some gorgeous colorful tape made a great repair, barely holding on for the week.<\/p><\/div>\n

I tripped on this guy line which pulled from the tent. Dave rigged up a nice repair that held for the trip.<\/p><\/div>\n

After several tears of aging the plastic of both spoons had hardened and become brittle. Dave broke one, I broke the other.<\/p><\/div>\n

Nap Time, err, I Mean, Pacing\u00a0Myself<\/h2>\n

Reading seems to always put me to sleep and I read four books during this trip. Result: I got some serious nap time in!<\/p>\n

We got out of camp early on our last paddling day so we would have time to do a big hike at The Dollhouse. This let us take some great pictures with the shadows of the morning adding texture and depth.<\/p>\n

What’s Next?<\/h2>\n

Well, I make my way back home, finishing off my month long vacation. After that my Tramsam Trail ride: 4,300 miles of off-road motorcycling from North Carolina to the coast of Oregon. Next padding trip? Maybe next fall, we shall see.<\/p>\n
